Why innovation advisory matters.
Corporate innovation initiatives fail for the same reasons AI initiatives fail — not because the ideas are bad, but because the organisational context is wrong. The governance is unclear. The funding mechanism is absent. The link between innovation and core strategy is never established. CORPORATE INNOVATION ADVISORY
GECB helps large-scale organisations design and implement innovation governance that actually works. We move beyond 'innovation theatre' to focus on high-accountability mechanisms that link R&D and startup engagement directly to business unit P&L and corporate strategy. Our advisory covers the design of corporate venture units, the establishment of internal funding committees, and the metrics and reporting frameworks required for executive oversight.

INNOVATION JUDGING & MENTORING
With a record of judging over 100+ startups across national and international stages, GECB provides independent, expert evaluation for ecosystem enablers, government agencies, and corporate innovation programmes. Led by Prof Dr Fred Wu, we bring a rigorous commercial lens to judging — moving beyond the pitch deck to evaluate business fundamentals, market viability, and execution capability. For selected programmes, we also provide post-competition mentoring to help high-potential ventures institutionalise and scale.

The 2025 NASA International Space Apps Challenge
Appointed as an Official Judge for the NASA Kuala Lumpur 2025, Dr Fred contributed to one of the world’s largest global innovation and problem-solving hackathons supported by NASA and international space agency partners. Serving as a Galactic Local Judge, he evaluated innovation-driven solutions, technology concepts, and interdisciplinary projects addressing real-world challenges related to Earth, space, sustainability, and future technologies. The involvement reflects GEConsult & Co’s growing participation in global innovation ecosystems, entrepreneurship development, and technology-driven strategic leadership across both local and international platforms.
UNM-Enactus UNLOCK Social Entrepreneurship 2020 @ University Nottingham of Malaysia
Invited as a Judge and Mentor for the Enactus “Unlock: Your Journey to Social Entrepreneurship” program organized by University of Nottingham Malaysia, Dr Fred contributed to the development of future young entrepreneurs and social innovation leaders. The initiative brought together university students, aspiring founders, and changemakers to explore entrepreneurship, innovation, sustainability, and community-driven impact. Through his involvement, Dr Fred provided mentorship, strategic evaluation, and practical business insights to help participants strengthen their ideas, improve execution strategies, and develop scalable solutions with meaningful social and economic impact.
Universiti Malaya - International Transdisciplinary Research Conference (UM-INTRAC) 2025
CEO Dr Fred was appointed as a Jury member for the International Transdisciplinary Research Conference (INTRAC 2025) organized by Universiti Malaya, Malaysia’s leading and top-ranked university. The conference brought together researchers, innovators, academicians, and industry practitioners across multidisciplinary fields to showcase research excellence, innovation, and future-oriented solutions. As part of the evaluation panel, Dr Fred contributed strategic, commercial, and innovation-driven perspectives in assessing research presentations, applied projects, and emerging ideas with real-world industry relevance and transformational potential.
The Undergraduate Ideas Festival (UM UG iFEST 2025), Organized by Universiti Malaya
Invited as an Industry Judge and Mentor for Universiti Malaya UG iFEST 2025, Dr Fred contributed to one of Malaysia’s largest undergraduate innovation and final year project festivals, involving over 2,600 student projects, and more than 180 participating organizations. The festival served as a strategic bridge between academia and industry, bringing together students, researchers, innovators, and corporate leaders to strengthen commercialization potential, graduate employability, and innovation-driven collaboration. Through project evaluations, mentoring engagements, and industry interactions, Dr Fred provided strategic and commercialization perspectives to help students refine their ideas, strengthen practical relevance, and align innovation outcomes with real-world market and industry expectations.
International Technology and Entrepreneurship Competition (ITEC) 2024 S.E.A. Edition
Continuing his involvement in the international innovation ecosystem, Dr Fred was invited to participate in the International Technology and Entrepreneurship Competition (ITEC) 2024 as part of the judging and mentoring panel for emerging technology ventures and high-growth startups. The platform connected entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, and ecosystem stakeholders across multiple countries, focusing on future-driven sectors including AI, digital transformation, advanced technologies, and scalable innovation models. Through this role, Dr Fred contributed strategic business insights, commercialization perspectives, and growth-oriented evaluation expertise to support the development of globally competitive startups and innovation-led enterprises.
International Technology and Entrepreneurship Competition (ITEC) 2023 S.E.A. Edition
Appointed as a Judge and Mentor for the International Technology and Entrepreneurship Competition (ITEC) 2023 – South East Asia Edition, Dr Fred contributed to a major international entrepreneurship platform sponsored by the Chaoyang District People’s Government of Beijing Municipality, China. The competition brought together startups, innovators, investors, and technology entrepreneurs across multiple regions including Southeast Asia, China, Europe, North America, South America, and the Middle East to identify high-potential ventures and emerging technologies.
As part of the judging and mentoring panel, Dr Fred was involved in evaluating innovation, commercialization potential, business scalability, technological capabilities, and investment readiness of participating startups across areas such as AI, Web 3.0, blockchain, cloud computing, digital platforms, and future technology applications. The role further reflects GEConsult & Co’s involvement in global innovation ecosystems, startup acceleration initiatives, and cross-border entrepreneurship development.
Alibaba Cloud 2022 Create@ Global Startup Contest
CEO Dr Fred was appointed as a judging panel member and mentor for the 2022 Create@ Alibaba Cloud Global Startup Contest 2022 organized by Alibaba Cloud, one of the world’s largest technology entrepreneurship platforms often regarded as the “Olympics” of global tech venture competitions. The initiative brought together startups, investors, innovators, and ecosystem leaders across multiple countries to accelerate digital transformation, innovation, and entrepreneurial growth. Through his involvement, Dr Fred contributed strategic insights, startup evaluation expertise, and mentorship support to emerging technology ventures and innovation-driven entrepreneurs.
Global Accelerator Programme (GAP) Cohort 4 - 2020 Flagship Programme by The Malaysian Global Innovation
& Creativity Centre (MaGIC)
Appointed by Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) as a mentor and strategic advisor for the Global Accelerator Programme (GAP) Cohort 4, the consultants from GECOnsult & Co contributed to the development and acceleration of high-potential startups across Southeast Asia during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, around Nov-Dec 2020. Conducted through a fully virtual and digitally enabled ecosystem, the programme focused on helping startups navigate uncertainty, strengthen resilience, adapt business models, improve investment readiness, and identify growth opportunities amid one of the most challenging economic periods globally. Through mentoring sessions, strategic evaluations, startup engagements, and virtual Demo Day activities, under the guidance of CEO Dr Fred, consultants provided guidance on commercialization strategy, scalability, innovation positioning, and sustainable growth to support founders in building future-ready and competitive businesses in the new digital economy.
